Lenovo says it will continue to sell small-screened Windows tablets in the U.S.
On Friday, we told you that it appeared as though Lenovo had stopped selling small-screened Windows tablets in the states. A Lenovo spokesman even explained at the time, that the manufacturer had seen stronger demand for larger-screened Windows slates in the U.S. But on Saturday, Lenovo said that the whole thing was just a misunderstanding. Lenovo did admit that the 8 inch Lenovo ThinkPad 8 is no longer being sold in the U.S., but said that the reason for the absence of the 8 inch Lenovo Miix2 is because it has been sold out in the U.S. "Our model mix changes as per customer demand," a Lenovo spokesman said.

To prove its point that nothing has changed, Lenovo says that for the holidays, it will have a new 8 inch Windows tablet in the states. Accompanying that device will be a 10 inch model. No information about these units has been released, including specs.

What made the rumor about Lenovo dropping smaller-screened Windows tablets in the U.S. appear to be the truth, was Microsoft's decision to pull a new product introduction for the Windows RT 8.1 powered Surface mini at the last minute. One possibility for the apparent lack of new small-screened Windows tablets in the U.S., is the decision by manufacturers to wait for Intel's new Broadwell chips that can run Windows 8.1 while maintaining a svelte design. The chip will be out later this year, which dovetails with Lenovo's comments about releasing a small-screened slate during the holidays.

"We will continue to bring new Windows devices to market across different screen sizes, including a new 8-inch tablet and 10-inch tablet coming this holiday. Our model mix changes as per customer demand, and although we are no longer selling ThinkPad 8 in the U.S., and we have sold out of Miix 8-inch, we are not getting out of the small-screen Windows tablet business as was reported by the media. In short, we will continue to sell both 8 and 10 inch Windows tablets in both the U.S. and non-U.S markets."-Lenovo statement
